Valve, renowned for its beloved game series like Half-Life and Portal, has recently introduced the Steam Deck OLED as a successor to its original portable gaming device. This new iteration boasts several enhanced features such as a longer-lasting battery, faster download speeds, and much more. In an interview with The Washington Post, Valve’s product designer Greg Coomer acknowledged the impact of Nintendo’s Switch OLED, stating, “[The Switch OLED] definitely showed people that the fidelity of an OLED screen is just generally higher. It’s just a great product from Nintendo that makes a ton of customers around the world super happy.”

Valve, inspired by Nintendo’s success, has embraced the potential of OLED screens and expanded its operations accordingly. While Valve has not yet disclosed the exact sales figures, the popularity of the Steam Deck has undoubtedly propelled the company’s growth. The newly unveiled Steam Deck OLED sports a larger 7.4″ screen, which is 0.4 inches bigger than its predecessor and features thinner bezels. Additionally, Valve has managed to reduce the weight of the system to around 640g. In comparison, the Switch OLED has a 7″ screen and weighs 420g when the Joy-Con controllers are attached.

Gene Park, a games reporter for The Washington Post, even shared a comparison that showcases the Switch OLED alongside the Steam Deck OLED and PlayStation’s Portal device. This comparison emphasizes the advancements offered by the Steam Deck OLED, which is set to launch in the United States and Canada on November 16th.

The Steam Deck OLED represents Valve’s commitment to delivering an unparalleled portable gaming experience. With its improved battery life, faster downloads, and captivating OLED display, the Steam Deck OLED aims to revolutionize the way gamers enjoy their favorite titles on the go. The expanded screen size and reduced weight further enhance the device’s portability and ensure maximum comfort during extended gaming sessions.
