Capcom and Square Enix were recently questioned about their plans for future remasters and remakes. While both publishers gave non-committal responses, it is clear that more redos, reimaginings, and remakes are on the horizon. Almost every publisher in the industry seems to be hopping on the remake train, so it’s only a matter of time before your favorite games receive a nostalgic refresh. So, dear readers, which older games would you like to see make a comeback?

Shareholder Suggestions for Square Enix

During Square Enix’s annual shareholder’s meeting, one shareholder made an interesting suggestion. They noted that the “Final Fantasy 1-6 Pixel Remaster has been well received” and inquired about plans to remaster other past titles. The shareholder personally expressed their desire to play Xenogears. This suggestion was well-received, although Square Enix’s staff appear to be more inclined towards a Final Fantasy 6 remake.

Capcom’s Shareholder Ideas

Capcom’s shareholders also had their own ideas. One question asked whether only the main numbered entries in Resident Evil would receive remakes. The publisher responded by stating that they were currently engaged in discussions, leaving the possibility open for a Code: Veronica remake or even a remake of another fan-favorite Resident Evil game.

Both Capcom and Square Enix are fully embracing their extensive back catalog of classics. Capcom has already released several horror revivals, with the most recent being the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 4 Remake. On the other hand, Square Enix is preparing to launch Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second installment in their planned remake trilogy, next year. However, these publishers are not alone in their pursuit of remakes. Numerous remakes have been released in recent years, such as System Shock, Dead Space, and XIII, with many more on the way, including The Witcher, Persona 3, and Metal Gear Solid 3. Clearly, nostalgia is a lucrative market.

Now, it’s your turn to share your thoughts on the remakes and remasters you would love to see. Feel free to suggest a classic game that is no longer accessible on modern systems or storefronts. You can also highlight an underappreciated gem from the past that deserves its time in the spotlight. Don’t be afraid to choose a game that may have received mixed reviews but could genuinely benefit from a touch-up.

“What’s your pick, Kaan?” you ask. Well, I would simply be delighted with a revamped version of Banjo-Kazooie, bringing the classic collectathon game to PC for the first time. This would preserve all the platforming goodness and cleverly designed levels, while a fresh coat of paint would also be welcome.

However, I’m sure you have even more unique and obscure choices in mind. So go ahead and share your dream remakes with us. We can’t wait to hear your suggestions!
