Bluesky, a decentralized Twitter alternative, has been gaining popularity in recent days, with many users of the bird-themed social network moving to it. However, Bluesky might start to feel like a new Twitter now that Dril, the Twitter legend who recently gave an interview as his real-life human self, has officially joined the platform.
Although there is nothing on Dril’s Bluesky profile that confirms it is him, Paul Frazee, a staff engineer at Bluesky, confirmed that the Dril profile @dril.bsky.social is the real deal. Dril has posted only one extremely not-safe-for-work post on his profile.
Dril’s Significance
Dril’s appearance on Bluesky is notable because he has been critical of Twitter and has been a key advocate of the #BlockTheBlue campaign to block people with Twitter Blue verification checkmarks. It is unclear if Dril will move full time to Bluesky, given that the platform is not publicly available yet. However, if Dril stops posting on Twitter, it is likely that his content will be found on Bluesky.
It remains to be seen how long it will take Twitter to ban discussion of Bluesky, as it has done in the past with other decentralized platforms. Despite this, Bluesky continues to gain traction as a promising alternative to Twitter.
