Arkane Studios’ Redfall is expected to make its debut soon, but before that, there are other vampire-themed video games worth playing. One of these is Infamous: Festival of Blood, which is technically downloadable content (DLC) for Infamous 2. In this game, the protagonist, Cole McGrath, is temporarily turned into a blood-sucking vampire after being bitten by one. Cole must defeat the evil vampire population in New Marais and find a cure. Infamous: Festival of Blood is a great game that merges the excellent traversal system of Infamous 2 with classic vampire horror.
Vampyr
Another game worth playing is Vampyr. This game is set in a time of plague where a doctor accidentally gets infected with vampire blood. The doctor, Reid, must learn to harness new abilities without harming others. However, most of the enemies in the game are extremely powerful, and to overcome them, Reid must indulge his urges. Every time Reid kills a citizen of London, a part of his domain ‘dies,’ succumbing to the vampire plague. Vampyr is a great game with impactful choices, and it thrives on its world and character-building.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a PlayStation One Classic and the oldest game on this list. In the game, players explore the castle of Count Dracula’s son, Alucard, and try to destroy it. Alucard meets a corrupted Richter Belmont and tries to prevent the resurrection of Dracula. Although the game looks dated, it remains one of the benchmarks for Metroidvania-style adventure games.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is a dense, vampire-themed RPG that has yet to be beaten by any modern vampire game. In the game, players, a fledgling vampire, must balance an otherworldly power struggle and control new abilities. Players must keep the peace, maintain neutrality, and make their way through a world that hates them. Even today, it’s a fantastic role-playing game and a masterclass of vampire video game storytelling.
The Sims 4: Vampires
The Sims franchise introduced vampires in The Sims 2: Nightlife, but it wasn’t until The Sims 4: Vampires that these special Sims were treated with respect. In the game pack, players get new gothic furniture, clothes, and accessories. Vampires have a new set of needs, with hunger being replaced by the need to drink plasma, which can be bought or taken. Players must look after their Vampire Sim, keep them fed, and make sure they’re not left in the sun for too long, or they’ll die. The Sims 4: Vampires is surprisingly detailed and a lot of fun.
Darkwatch
Darkwatch is a steampunk-style horror adventure game where players play as Jericho Cross, an outlaw who has been forcibly turned into a vampire and recruited into a monster-hunting organization. Cross is a cool protagonist with bloody vampire abilities, and players must perfect all of them to survive as he hunts down hordes of zombies and other undead beasts. The game’s graphics are dated, but it has excellent narrative and unique world-building.
Skyrim
Skyrim is not solely focused on vampires, but players who get bitten by one can play the entire adventure as a fully-fledged creature of the night. When players unlock extra vampire-themed content in the game’s Dawnguard DLC, they gain the ability to become a Vampire Lord. If players side with the vampires during the game’s quests, they can grow their powers exponentially and wreak havoc on the entirety of Skyrim.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2
The Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series is a franchise reboot that follows knight Gabriel Belmont on a quest to defeat mysterious creatures. In the game’s final DLC, Belmont is ultimately corrupted by vampire blood and becomes Count Dracula. In Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Dracula wields a Shadow Whip and a Void Sword and can transform into mist or fly. With family drama and neat platforming, this is one vampire video game that is worth playing.
