Volkswagen’s ID Buzz has taken on a new life with the introduction of a custom camper build-out known as eVentje. This clever and charming conversion is now available for general sale in Europe. Designed and sold by Ventje, a growing company based in the Netherlands, the eVentje is a top-notch conversion that rivals even VW’s California edition of the ID Buzz, which is still a few years away from release. The delay in the release of the California edition has opened up space for aftermarket camper products, including the impressive Ququq camping box.

Having tested both the Ventje camper on a VW Transporter T5 cargo van and lived in an ID Buzz for a few weeks before trying out the eVentje model, I can say that the combination of the two is truly impressive. The overall design of the Ventje camper relies on over 100 magnets to keep everything in place, from the wooden surfaces to the furniture. The interior features a kitchen accessible from both inside and outside, a pop-top tent, and a multipurpose space that can be transformed from a lounge to a bed to luxurious outdoor furniture in minutes.

The eVentje camper boasts several improvements, including a folding table and hidden stools that create an outdoor bar area, making it ideal for enjoying the great outdoors. The kitchen has been upgraded to offer more prep surfaces and smarter storage solutions, making the most of the limited space available. With two induction cooktops, a 2200W inverter, a 2160Wh leisure battery, and multiple charging options, the eVentje is designed for off-grid living with all modern conveniences.

Despite VW’s shortcomings in software design, the driving experience of the ID Buzz remains exceptional, even with Ventje’s customizations. It is expected that VW will eventually introduce a camping mode for the ID Buzz, similar to the one found in its existing California series campers, to enhance the overall camping experience. The eVentje camper can accommodate four people but is currently only highway legal for two. However, the regular-wheelbase model offers ample space for travelers, even with a pet in tow.

The eVentje camper is not cheap, starting at around €95,000 in Europe. It will soon have to compete with VW’s new PHEV “T7” California camper, which is expected to be priced similarly. However, the eVentje offers a unique retro-futuristic appeal and a more flexible and fun interior design compared to its competitor. Orders for the eVentje camper are currently shipping to select European countries, with plans to expand to the UK and US in the future.

The eVentje camper by Ventje is a game-changer in the world of camper conversions, offering a unique blend of functionality, style, and comfort. With its innovative design and modern features, it delivers an unparalleled camping experience for those looking to travel in style. Ventje’s commitment to delivering a high-quality, all-electric camper conversion showcases the true potential of the iconic Type 2 camper in the modern era.
