Actress Lena Headey, famously known for her portrayal of Cersei in HBO’s Game of Thrones, has recently revealed that she has not watched the spinoff series House of the Dragon. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Headey admitted that she has not seen the show and considers it to be “too weird” to watch. While she does not miss Game of Thrones as a show, she does miss the relationships and friendships that were formed during her time on the series. Headey acknowledges the impact that Game of Thrones had on everyone involved and acknowledges that it will always hold a special place in their hearts.
Similar to Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role as Cersei’s brother and lover, Jaime Lannister, has also not seen House of the Dragon as of April. Coster-Waldau expressed that he plans to wait and give the show a couple of seasons before binge-watching it. He acknowledges the immense popularity of the show and is genuinely happy for those who enjoy it.
Emilia Clarke, who played the iconic Daenerys in Game of Thrones, openly admits that she cannot bring herself to watch House of the Dragon. In an interview with Variety, she compares watching the show to attending a school reunion for a year she did not belong to, suggesting that it feels disconnected from her own experience. Clarke states that she is actively avoiding watching the spinoff series altogether.
Despite the mixed feelings from the original cast, House of the Dragon has undeniably found success. The first season was well-received and garnered a dedicated fanbase, averaging an impressive 29 million viewers per episode. However, the upcoming Season 2 is expected to have fewer episodes, with only eight compared to the first season’s ten. This decision may leave fans both excited for the continuation of the story and yearning for more content.
House of the Dragon’s success has undoubtedly caught HBO’s attention. The network is reportedly considering another spinoff series centered around Jon Snow, a beloved character from Game of Thrones. Additionally, HBO has expressed interest in exploring other prequel series, providing fans with even more opportunities to dive back into the captivating world of Westeros.
The Game of Thrones cast members have varied emotions when it comes to House of the Dragon. While Lena Headey finds it too weird to watch, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plans to give it some time before indulging in a binge-watching session. Emilia Clarke, on the other hand, actively avoids the spinoff series. Despite these personal sentiments, House of the Dragon has garnered considerable success, paving the way for future spinoffs and keeping the Game of Thrones universe alive in the hearts of fans worldwide.
