After the disbanding of Arkane Austin by Microsoft, there is still hope for Redfall as the team behind the game is working on one final update. This update, known as Game Update 4, is set to introduce exciting new features such as an offline mode, single player pausing, revamped Neighbourhood and Nest systems, and more surprises yet to be unveiled. While there is no specific release date announced, Arkane has assured fans that more details will be revealed soon.

One of the most anticipated features of the upcoming update is the addition of an offline mode. Since its launch, there have been numerous requests for Redfall to be playable as a single player game without the need for an online connection. Although players can already enjoy the game solo, an internet connection is still required for access. With the closure of Arkane Austin, the future of the game seemed uncertain, raising concerns about the possible shutdown of servers, making the game unplayable. The introduction of the offline mode addresses these worries and ensures that Redfall will remain enjoyable even if the servers are eventually taken down.

Following the unexpected shutdown of Arkane Austin by Microsoft in early May 2024, the remaining team is diligently working on the final update for Redfall. This update aims to “future proof” the game, eliminating the need for active servers to run as a single player game. It is confirmed that this will be the last update for Redfall, with no plans for additional content or updates in the future. Once the project is completed, the team members working on Redfall are likely to be reassigned to other Microsoft-owned studios.

With the closure of Arkane Austin, the previously announced roadmap for Redfall has been scrapped, leading to the cancellation of new content that was in the works. Planned updates included the release of two new heroes, each with their own “unique powers and gameplay,” as well as other DLC additions to enhance the gaming experience. Unfortunately, none of these will come to fruition as initially planned.

In light of these changes, Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, has promised “make-good offers” to players who purchased the Redfall Bite Back Edition, which included a special Hero Pass. For those eligible for this offer, they can apply to receive it through the Bethesda website. As for the rest of the players, they can expect to receive more information on the launch date of the final Redfall update in the near future.

The final update for Redfall comes with both excitement and bittersweet emotions as players prepare for the last chapter of the game. While new content may no longer be on the horizon, the promise of an offline mode and other enhancements in Game Update 4 ensures that the world of Redfall will continue to captivate players for years to come.
