The Battlestar Galactica reboot, which has been in development for five years, has been dropped by Peacock. Surprisingly, Peacock never formally ordered the show to series during this time. However, this has not deterred Universal Content Productions from seeking out other outlets to pick up the show now that it is no longer with Peacock.

One possible destination for the Battlestar Galactica reboot could be Syfy, which previously aired the 2003 reboot of the series. Given the history of the franchise on the channel, it seems like a natural fit. Additionally, other major streamers may also express interest in picking up the show now that it is available.

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail was the driving force behind the Battlestar Galactica reboot. The show was supposed to be set in the continuity established by the 2003 miniseries and subsequent series. However, with Michael Lesslie leaving the project in 2021, Derek Simonds was brought on board as the new showrunner and writer in 2024.

The original Battlestar Galactica series, created by Glen A. Larson in 1978, followed a space fleet of survivors running from the Cylons. The series only lasted for a single season but gained a cult following. Despite its short run, the show left a lasting impact on science fiction television.

Following the conclusion of the 2004 Battlestar Galactica series, Syfy attempted to keep the franchise alive with spin-offs. The prequel series, Caprica, lasted for only one season, while Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, a web series, failed to become an ongoing TV show. Additionally, a Battlestar Galactica movie was in the works with director Simon Kinberg, but updates on the project have been scarce.

The Battlestar Galactica reboot is in search of a new home after being dropped by Peacock. With a dedicated fan base and a rich history, it is likely that the show will find a new outlet to continue its legacy in the science fiction genre.
