Asus recently unveiled its latest handheld gaming PC, the ROG Ally X. This new device is a revised version of the original ROG Ally, sporting a sleek black color instead of the previous design. According to Asus employees Jake Kulinski and Whitson Gordon, the ROG Ally X is not a complete redesign or a new generation, but it does come with significant improvements. These enhancements include a much-improved battery life, upgraded storage, RAM, ports, and potentially other physical changes to enhance the user experience.

While Asus has been tight-lipped about the specific details of the ROG Ally X, there are some hints about what’s to come. The new handheld is rumored to feature more RAM, a longer M.2 SSD slot, and redesigned joystick modules for better gameplay. One notable change is the relocation of the SD card slot, a modification made to address previous issues that led to returns with the original ROG Ally.

In addition to hardware upgrades, the ROG Ally X is expected to come equipped with a new version of Armoury Crate in July 2024. This updated software will offer new tabs, navigation tools, and the ability for users to share controller mapping profiles, similar to the functionality found on the Steam Deck. Despite these software improvements, the ROG Ally X will continue to use AMD’s Z1 Extreme processor and a 1080p 7-inch IPS screen, similar to its predecessor.

Asus has teased that more information about the ROG Ally X will be revealed on June 2 during a special announcement. While the company has hinted at some of the new features and improvements to expect, enthusiasts and gamers alike will have to wait until the official unveiling to get a comprehensive look at what the ROG Ally X has to offer. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new addition to the world of handheld gaming PCs.
