EA Sports has made a comeback in the baseball gaming industry on consoles after a decade-plus hiatus with the release of the Super Mega Baseball 4, an arcade-style game developed by EA’s Metalhead Software. Fans have anticipated the game’s release since Super Mega Baseball 3 was launched in 2020 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Metalhead Software was later acquired by EA in 2021, raising concerns that the new release in the series might introduce EA’s microtransactions business practices.
However, those concerns were unfounded as Super Mega Baseball 4 does not have microtransactions, except for the stadiums that come with the premium editions, which can be purchased with real money. Super Mega Baseball 4 costs $50, which is $5 more than the launch price of Super Mega Baseball 3 in 2020. On the other hand, the Ballpark Edition costs $60 and includes three extra stadiums, with Peril Point already released, and Ciudad de Colores and Castillo Arena following in July and August, respectively.

Super Mega Baseball 4 also features the “Creators Classic League,” which includes real-world baseball personalities from Jomboy Media, Mighty Goat, Shelfy, and Fuzzy.
The game is available on various platforms, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. EA Play subscribers can also enjoy a 10-hour trial of the game before purchasing it. Although EA Sports is just entering the baseball gaming industry on consoles, the publisher’s MLB Tap Sports Baseball series has been running on mobile for years.
