Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, developed by Summerfall Studios, is set to launch on PC and console platforms on August 3, 2023. Originally planned for a PC release, the game will now be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The latest trailer, revealed during the Summer Game Fest edition of the Future Games Show, introduces the Stray Gods cast and protagonist Grace, played by Laura Bailey.
The Game
Stray Gods follows the story of Grace, who must befriend an array of quirky, malevolent, and terrifying Gods from the modern Greek pantheon. The game involves solving a murder with magical implications and expressing Grace’s voice through song. The game’s soundtrack will be composed by a tenured team that includes Austin Wintory (Journey, Abzu), Montaigne, Tripod, and more.
The game’s songs are described as the high points of the story, and they are expected to make for epic and novel battles that feel unique in the world of video games. The songs will be accompanied by gorgeous artwork from the Summerfall team, with art direction led by Benjamin Ee.
The Cast
The game will feature a cast of performers, including heavyweights like Troy Baker, Janina Gavankar, Rahul Kohli, Ashley Johnson, and more. The game was described as a hybrid between Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s musical episode, ‘Once More, With Feeling,’ and the classic dramedy of Greek mythology.
As the release date approaches, we can expect to learn more about how the game will bridge the gap between games and musicals. Stray Gods promises to be a unique and exciting addition to the world of gaming, with its innovative blend of roleplaying and musical elements.
