Barone took to Twitter / X to inform the community about the unexpected growth of Update 1.6. He stated, “1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned.” Despite its expanded size, Barone assured fans that he has finished creating significant new content for the update. Currently, the game is in the bug-fixing and polishing phase, eagerly awaiting its official release in 2024.
To fully grasp the magnitude of the changes in Update 1.6, Barone encourages players to embark on a new journey in Stardew Valley. By starting afresh, players will delve into the depths of the expanded content and discover intricacies that were previously unseen. While it is still possible to continue playing on an old save, Barone recommends embarking on a new playthrough to experience everything in its proper context. This way, players can avoid unlocking a plethora of content all at once when loading up an old save file.
Although Barone hasn’t revealed all the details about the upcoming update, a features list from late 2023 did give players a glimpse of what to expect. The additions include a new major festival, two mini festivals, an abundance of late-game content expanding on the skill areas, exciting new items and crafting recipes, Joja alternatives for some end-game quests, over 100 new lines of dialogue, winter outfits for villagers, rewards for completing billboard requests, support for 8-player multiplayer on PC, numerous small additions and adjustments, a new farm type, and hidden secrets waiting to be discovered. Additionally, Barone has teased the introduction of a new iridium scythe tool, making it easier to harvest grass, wheat, and grains.
