Gaming giant Square Enix has recently announced its “medium/long-term reshuffle,” outlining its commitment to create a pipeline of high-quality games that have global appeal. The company aims to revisit the total development process to improve the quality of its games, enabling regular launches of major titles.
In its latest financial briefing, Square Enix revealed that it has been working to expand subscriptions to its MMOs, such as Final Fantasy 14 and Dragon Quest 10, and mobile/browser-based games to stabilize earnings. However, the income from these games will be invested in content development with a focus on high-quality console and PC games.
Games in the Pipeline
Square Enix has confirmed that it will continue to focus on the development of HD games, which it defines as its highest quality console and PC games. Some of the company’s upcoming games in this category include PowerWash Simulator, Dragon Quest Treasures, Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, and Octopath Traveler 2.
Although the company has not yet announced any major games in its pipeline, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, part two of the four-part remake of Final Fantasy 7, is set to launch on PS5 in 2023. Additionally, Kingdom Hearts 4 is confirmed to be in development.
Final Fantasy 16, one of Square Enix’s most highly-anticipated games, is set to launch exclusively on PS5 on June 22. Although there are no immediate plans to port the game over to other platforms, Square Enix has a six-month exclusivity deal with Sony, making it possible for the game to launch on Xbox and PC at a later date.
