The official Xbox Twitter account has announced a price cut for Seagate Expansion Cards for Xbox Series X/S. The memory cards, available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, are now priced at $89.99, $149.99, and $279.99, respectively. The announcement effectively transforms the recent discounted sale prices of the cards into actual price reductions, which should be reflected across all retailers carrying them.

The recent drop in prices for Seagate cards comes after the leak of cheaper storage options from Western Digital. This indicates that a little threat of competition can go a long way in pricing.

While these prices are still higher compared to other non-proprietary forms of SSD storage, it is still a welcome $80 drop on the 2TB and $50 on the 1TB and 512GB (if available). However, the current generation is two-and-a-half years old, and the PlayStation 5’s more universal approach to add-on SSD storage means that owners can take advantage of much cheaper prices. It is relatively easy to find a PS5-compatible M.2 1TB SSD for around $70.

The hope is that the Xbox Expansion Cards will eventually be available at even steeper discounts during significant sales events, like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This is especially true once competing cards become available, and prices become more competitive.

In conclusion, it is excellent news for Xbox Series X/S owners that Seagate Expansion Cards have received a price cut. This is a welcome change, especially since the recent discounted sale prices of the cards have now been transformed into actual price reductions. The hope is that these cards will eventually become even more affordable, especially during significant sales events.
