Samsung has recently announced that it will be extending the Tizen operating system updates for its newer AI-powered TVs to seven years. This move comes as a response to the increasing competition from Chinese rivals in the smart TV market. The decision was made at Samsung Electronics’ Suwon Campus and will first apply to TV models released in March 2024, with some products from 2023 also included in the policy extension.

Samsung, known as the world’s largest seller of smart TVs, is facing stiff competition from Chinese companies such as Hisense and TCL. Recent research has shown that Samsung’s market share has been declining, with Chinese companies closing in. To address this challenge, Samsung has decided to provide a longer period of updates and upgrades to its Tizen operating system on AI TVs.

The president of Samsung Electronic’s Visual Display Business Division, Yong Seok-Yoon, stated that the extended updates will help Samsung maintain and widen its lead in the market over Chinese competitors. This strategic move aims to reassure customers and improve the overall user experience of Samsung AI-powered TVs.

By offering seven years of free Tizen upgrades for AI TVs, Samsung hopes to differentiate itself from Chinese competitors and solidify its market leadership in the smart TV industry. This move reflects Samsung’s commitment to long-term support and customer satisfaction.

In comparison to its domestic rival LG, Samsung’s decision to provide extended updates for Tizen OS on its AI TVs aligns with the industry trend towards longer support for smart devices. LG announced a similar initiative for its webOS smart TVs, but Samsung’s seven-year guarantee sets it apart from the competition.

Samsung’s decision to extend Tizen operating system updates for AI TVs to seven years is a strategic move to maintain its position as a market leader in the smart TV industry. By providing longer support and upgrades, Samsung aims to differentiate itself from Chinese competitors and provide customers with a superior user experience.
