As the year draws to a close, it’s time for Rock Paper Shotgun to shut down the treehouse and take a well-deserved Christmas break. While it would be far too cold to sit in a treehouse during this time of year, our bosses believe that January will offer enough warmth for our return on Tuesday the 2nd of January, 2024. It’s moments like these that make me realize how prone I am to making mistakes, including consistently writing the wrong year on things for months to come. However, as we enter this festive season, I want to take a moment to extend my warm wishes to all of you, regardless of what you’re celebrating. May you all have a fantastic few days off.

Although we may be on a break, we don’t want to leave you feeling entirely bereft. We truly love our readers, and that’s why we have some exciting hashtag content scheduled for you while we’re away. Tomorrow, we’ll reveal our Game of the Year 2023, even though it seems many of you already have a good idea of what it might be. Nevertheless, let’s go on with the charade because playing charades is also a traditional part of this time of year. Join us here at 1 pm GMT for the grand “reveal.” Trust me, it’s a great game, so we have to indulge in this suspense.

If this year’s Advent Calendar didn’t fully satisfy your gaming appetite, don’t worry; we have more options for you. Our RPS Selection Boxes, lovingly referred to as “hon. menchies,” will feature games that our staff members wanted to recommend but couldn’t include in the calendar or that simply didn’t make the cut. Starting from the 26th, there will be at least one Selection Box every day for you to enjoy.

Additionally, we have a variety of RPS Year in Review articles to keep you grounded in time. This year saw the release of Hi-Fi Rush, can you believe it? Well, you don’t have to imagine, because Ed has compiled a list of all the Bestest Best reviews we published this year. We also have a collection of our best features and, perhaps most intriguingly, our guides gang has delved into what defined 2023 from a guides perspective.

One of my personal favorites is the release of a series of Supporter-funded posts that will become available for everyone to read. You’ll find them in the Latest feed as they unlock, but don’t forget to check the From the Archive tag for these and many other Supporter posts.

Lastly, we cannot forget our annual Christmas Crackers. Brace yourself for some truly terrible jokes, as we managed to outdo ourselves this year. I must admit, I was even embarrassed when scheduling them. However, if you’re in need of some perspective, these crackers will surely provide it. There’s one joke for each day of the break, giving you something to look forward to.

As I write this, I’m actually speaking to you from the past, busily scheduling a multitude of tweets for all the aforementioned content. However, in the “right now,” I’m probably enjoying some chocolate and pondering the year ahead. Before I sign off for the year, I want to hear from you. What is your game-related resolution for 2024? As for me, I resolve to play more weird and unique games, a resolution that seems to recur year after year.

Thank you all for your continued support and engagement throughout the year. It has been a pleasure to bring you the latest gaming news, reviews, and features. Take care and have a wonderful few days. We’ll see you again next year, on January 2nd! Hopefully, you won’t be nursing too much of a hangover.
