TeamKill Media, the game’s developers, stated that the reason for this cancellation is the inability to optimize the game for the older hardware. While Quantum Error was primarily developed for the PlayStation 5, the studio initially believed that they could scale down the next-gen version to run on the PS4. However, they have now realized that compromising the game to that extent would diminish the experience for PS4 players. The team concluded that it would be impossible to deliver a PS4 version that lives up to the standards set by the PS5. According to TeamKill, a PS4 release would require significant downgrading and modification of assets, lighting, and other elements, resulting in a substantially different and inferior experience compared to the PS5 version. The studio wants to ensure fairness to PS4 players and, therefore, made the difficult decision to cancel the PS4 version of Quantum Error.
