Nvidia’s RTX 4090 graphics card has seen significant price drops in several European markets, including Nvidia’s official online store. In the UK, the RTX 4090 is now available for £1,579, down from its original listing of £1,649. However, the biggest drop in price has been in Germany, with the RTX 4090 now available for €1,769, down from €1,949 at launch. Although this is still a high price point, the fact that Nvidia’s top-of-the-range graphics card is now available from its official store for less than its launch price is significant.
RTX 4090 represents value for money compared to previous generation
The RTX 4090 is notable for representing a step forward in value for money compared to the previous generation of Nvidia’s graphics cards. The RTX 3090 was launched at $1,499 in late 2020, with the RTX 3090 arriving at $1,599 in late 2022. In contrast, the RTX 4090 is much more powerful than the RTX 3090, yet is available at a similar price point. This is in contrast to the RTX 3080 and RTX 4080, which were more expensive than their predecessors but did not offer the same performance jump as the RTX 4090.
While the RTX 4080 can also be purchased for just under MSRP from several official Nvidia stores in Europe, it is still far from being a decent deal on the card. It should also be noted that neither the RTX 4080 nor the 4090 are listed below MSRP on Nvidia’s USA store, indicating that these sub-MSRP listings are not yet universal. However, they are significant enough to suggest that GPU prices are moving in the right direction, even if they have not yet reached a point where they are considered affordable.
