Nintendo Direct is set to broadcast their latest showcase on June 21st, 2023 at 3pm BST / 4pm CEST / 7am PT / 10am ET / Wednesday 12am AET. The Direct will last for about 40 minutes and will mostly focus on games releasing this year, including Pikmin 4. In addition, Everybody 1-2-Switch and Master Detective Archives: Rain Code are expected to be showcased. Nintendo Life has laid out their predictions and hopes for the upcoming Direct.

DLC News

The author is confident that the Direct will have some DLC news. Splatoon 3’s ‘Side Order’ is due to come out this summer, with only bits of information known about it so far. A tease for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s DLC, The Teal Mask, may also be expected, as there is a Pokémon Presents date set for a week later. The Tears of the Kingdom DLC is also likely on the horizon.

Game Rumors

Rumors are swirling that a new 2D Mario game may be revealed during the Direct. If it does not carry the ‘New’ moniker, then it could be a real shake-up. The author would love for Nintendo to make a new 2D Mario game that’s just completely off the wall, with pixel art visuals or something along the lines of Cuphead. The author is also hoping for a tease for new hardware, but acknowledges that no new hardware is due this fiscal year.

Persona 3 Reload is another safe bet for the Direct. The author believes a Switch version is conspicuously absent from the marketing so far. Atlus has made a big deal about Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Tactica coming to Switch, so it’s unlikely that the company would exclude what is arguably the community’s most requested title yet.

Finally, the author can’t acknowledge a new Direct presentation without mentioning Metroid Prime 4. The author knows nothing about this game but remains one of their most anticipated games of all time. It’s time for Nintendo to reveal more about it.

Other Titles

Aside from the titles mentioned above, the author would like to hear more about the Level-5 announcements that are coming to Switch at some point. Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road has been on the radar for years, and after the announcement that it would be getting a worldwide release, it would be nice to hear something more concrete. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam should also be coming this year or next.

The author would love to see some more big hitters pad out the rest of the year, such as another Metroid title or a Samus Returns Switch port. However, the author wouldn’t be surprised to see the showcase be made up of smaller announcements to keep us going instead.

The author is excited about the upcoming Nintendo Direct and is looking forward to hearing more about upcoming games and DLC news. While there are rumors circulating about what might be revealed, the author is hoping for a few surprises and fan-pleasers to be announced.
