DC Studios boss James Gunn has given fans some insight into who he wants to play Superman in the upcoming Superman Legacy film that he is writing. Although he did not reveal any names of the actors that they are considering, he confirmed that it will not be Chris Pratt. The movie will focus on a younger Clark Kent, so Pratt wouldn’t be a good fit. If he were a few years younger, it might be a different story.

What Gunn is Looking for in an Actor

Gunn has revealed that the actor they choose will need to have all the humanity that Superman has but also be an alien. The person will need to have the same kindness and compassion that Superman has, and they should be someone who viewers would want to give a hug.

Will Poulter, who stars in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as Adam Warlock, was surprised when he was asked if he had considered auditioning for Gunn’s Superman Legacy. Gunn has confirmed that casting announcements for the movie won’t be made in April or May, so it’s possible that we won’t hear anything until June.

Warner Bros. Discovery is not giving notes to Gunn and his team for Superman Legacy because WB Discovery and DC Studios are different units. Gunn also clarified that the entire script for Superman Legacy is finished, although scripts can change during production.

Henry Cavill, who played Superman in previous movies, was originally announced to be returning for the role, but he later confirmed that he would leave The Witcher to make room for this. However, it was confirmed that Cavill would not return to play Superman in Superman Legacy, which will focus on a younger Superman.

Superman Legacy is a prequel film that will follow a young Clark Kent during his time as a Daily Planet reporter. The movie is set to release on July 11, 2025. Gunn is writing the movie, but there is no word yet on a director. Gunn’s next film is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which releases on May 5.
