After a period of uncertainty, Intel has finally come forward with an explanation for the instability problems that have been affecting their high-end 13th and 14th Gen CPUs. According to an Intel spokesperson, the root cause of the issues has been traced back to elevated operating voltage in some of the desktop processors. This elevated voltage is the result of a microcode algorithm that is causing incorrect voltage requests to the processor.

In response to these findings, Intel has developed a microcode patch that is aimed at addressing the root cause of the instability issues related to the elevated voltages. The company is currently in the process of validating the patch to ensure that it effectively resolves the reported scenarios of instability with the Core 13th/14th Gen desktop processors. Intel is targeting a mid-August release for the patch to partners once the validation process is complete.

However, the situation escalated recently when Alderon Games, a developer of a dinosaur survival game, announced that they were transitioning to AMD servers due to the high rate of Intel CPU crashes. Tech YouTuber Level1Tech also conducted an investigation and identified significant issues with the 13th and 14th Gen CPUs, particularly in server workloads.

Following speculation about the causes of these stability issues, Intel has now confirmed that the elevated operating voltage is indeed the root cause of the problem. This issue is not inherent to the chips themselves but is instead the result of a faulty microcode algorithm. Intel is working on deploying patches to rectify this issue and plans for motherboard vendors to release UEFI/BIOS updates for affected CPU users to install.
