The Indiana Jones franchise has been a leisurely one, with 19 years between the fourth and fifth movies. However, the end is nigh for the titular hero’s story with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which will be released on June 30. Despite the aging of both Indy and Harrison Ford, the latter of whom plays the former, the action in the new movie will not be sidelined. In fact, as those who attended Disney’s CinemaCon presentation saw, Indy still has some gas left in his tank.

A Glimpse into the Action

While no cast or crew members appeared at the Indiana Jones part of CinemaCon, attendees were shown an actual clip from the movie, which featured a lengthy action sequence. The clip opens with Indy and Helena, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, being pursued by some menacing-looking men in Tangiers. The duo is seeking the Dial of Destiny, which is the movie’s namesake. However, they’re not exactly friends, and the villains are actually chasing the villainous Voller, played by Mads Mikkelson, who may or may not have the Dial. In turn, the villains are being chased by Voller’s men.

During the chase, Indy crashes their vehicle down a flight of stairs and into the side of a building, suggesting that his driving skills may not be what they used to be. Helena jumps into a new vehicle and takes off, leaving Indy to find his own transportation. However, this is an Indiana Jones movie, and he never stays in his vehicle during a car chase. Eventually, Indy ends up back with Helena and Teddy, her sidekick who happens to be a kid. It’s unclear if they’re channelling Indy and Shortround from Temple of Doom, but if Helena is going to be the new Indy, she’s certainly acting like it in this scene.

The Passing of the Torch

The Dial of Destiny will be Harrison Ford’s last time playing the fictional archaeologist and adventurer. Therefore, the movie provides an opportunity for Indy to pass the torch, and even the Indy nickname, on to Helena, who is his goddaughter. This setup could lead to an interesting storyline if that’s the direction the movie takes.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny releases on June 30.
