Google Photos Introduces Collections Feature for Easier Content Management

Google Photos is rolling out a new feature called Collections, which aims to streamline the way users organize and access their content. This new destination will house all albums in one place, including private albums, shared albums, folders for people and pets, documents, and places. The main goal of Collections is to make finding and managing content easier for users.

In addition to the introduction of Collections, Google Photos is also redesigning the search tab. The new design replaces image tiles with a list of suggested options such as Screenshots, Selfies, and Menus. This new layout is meant to provide users with more specific and relevant search options, making it easier to locate specific types of content within their library.

With the rollout of Collections, users will now have the option to switch between different album views, such as “All,” “Shared with me,” and “My albums.” The addition of folders for “Favorites” and “Trash” provides users with a more organized way to manage their content. Google has also made changes based on user feedback, such as removing the suggestion for Locked Folders at the top of the Collections view.

Along with the organizational changes, Google Photos has also relocated certain tools for creating content. For example, the option to create a Locked Folder can now be found at the bottom of Collections. Additionally, users can access features for importing images, creating albums, collages, and highlight videos by tapping the “+” symbol. Managing photo frames and freeing up space on the device now requires users to tap their Google Photos account profile.
