KO_OP, the developers of the coming-of-age visual novel, Goodbye Volcano High, has announced that the game’s release date has been pushed back to August 29th. The reason for the delay is to ensure that the game is of the highest quality possible, avoid overworking the team, and move the release date away from a busy launch period. The team at KO_OP stated that if the game had been released in June, it would have required significant cuts to the quality and scope of the game.

According to KO_OP, launching the game on time would have required the team to work nights, weekends, and early mornings, which could have led to burnout. The developers have also pointed out that June is a busy month for game releases, including Diablo 4, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy 16. By delaying the release, Goodbye Volcano High stands a greater chance of success as it would be released during a less busy news cycle.

A Unique Rhythm Control Setup with a Narrative Reboot

Goodbye Volcano High is part rhythm game and part interactive film that follows a group of high-schooling dinosaurs during their senior year. The game deals with the challenges of entering adulthood, including the impending apocalypse, which takes the form of an extinction-level meteor.

The game was previously delayed in 2021 to go through a “narrative reboot,” but this delay seems to be minor. Our Rachel played a demo at Pax East and was impressed by its unique rhythm control setup. KO_OP has promised another public demo soon after the first demo debuted as part of the LudoNarraCon digital fest.

Goodbye Volcano High will be available on Steam and PlayStation when it launches on August 29th. The delay ensures that the game will be of the highest quality possible, and the team at KO_OP will not be overworked, resulting in a better experience for players.
