Publisher Microids has announced the upcoming release of Flashback 2, the sequel to the 1992 classic action-platformer. Developed under the leadership of Flashback’s original creator, Paul Cuisset, the game will launch in November on PC and consoles. Flashback 2 offers a first look at gameplay, showcasing a cyberpunk world with 3D environments that allow players to move in all eight directions.

The game follows the story of Conrad B. Hart, the series’ hero, on his quest to find a lifelong friend while combating a new Morph invasion. Alongside shooting and jumping, players will solve puzzles from a side-on view. The game’s AI-powered weapon, A.I.S.H.A, will also return, featuring baddies across New Tokyo, New Washington, the plain old Jungle, and more.

Some original developers, such as designer Thierry Perreau and composer Raphaël Gesqua, have returned to the development team. The game’s thumping synths are a trademark of the cyberpunk world, and Gesqua is doing an excellent job with the musical composition.

Flashback became famous for its realistic approach to platforming and beautiful rotoscope animations. Although the sequel is not iterating on the original art style, it is still highly anticipated. A crowdfunded spiritual successor recently released on Steam for those who would like to experience more of that style. Ubisoft published a Flashback remake in 2013, which was not well received.

Currently priced at just £1 on Steam, the original Flashback is available to play. The price of Flashback 2 has not been announced yet, but it is available to wishlist.
