The Fallout London mod, which was set to depict the nuclear Wasteland in England’s capital, is now facing indefinite delays due to the upcoming next-gen update for Fallout 4. The project lead, Dean Carter, has expressed concerns that many mods, including Fallout London, will likely be “broken” by the update. The Fallout 4 script extender, upon which many mods rely, is expected to be incompatible with the new update, requiring fixes from the modding community.

Originally scheduled for release on April 23, the Fallout London mod now has its release date up in the air. Carter explains that despite all the preparations and testing done to ensure stability, the impending next-gen update may render all their work in the past four years useless. The dialogue systems, UI, and perks system of Fallout London, all built on F4 SE, will require significant fixing post-update.

Team Folon, the group of modders working on Fallout London, are faced with the challenge of dealing with a project that is too large to be released on consoles or traditional mod hosting websites like NexusMods. The mod, estimated to be around 30 to 40 gigabytes in size, presents unique distribution challenges. While there is a potential avenue to release the mod for players who own the game on GOG, the logistics are still being worked out.

Despite the option for players to bypass or delay the update, Team Folon aims to release Fallout London as close to a polished game as possible. Carter emphasizes the team’s commitment to delivering a high-quality mod that is stable and enjoyable for players. This dedication to quality may result in a longer wait time for fans eagerly anticipating the release of Fallout London.

The Fallout London mod faces significant obstacles and uncertainties due to the Fallout 4 next-gen update. The dedicated modding team is working tirelessly to address the compatibility issues and distribution challenges in order to deliver a seamless experience for players. While the delays are frustrating, it underscores the complexity and challenges of modding in the ever-evolving world of gaming.
