The highly anticipated Persona 3 Portable remaster, originally available only digitally, is finally receiving a set of physical editions. Limited Run Games, a boutique publisher specializing in physical releases for games that are exclusively digital, has recently unveiled its versions of Persona 3 Portable for the Switch, PS4, and Xbox platforms. While there are three editions to choose from, it is the $200 SEES Edition that truly stands out.

The SEES Edition, priced at $200, includes a plethora of additional items that will excite any devoted fan. The collector’s set includes a certificate of authenticity, a character shadowbox, a soundtrack CD, a SEES armband, and an assortment of character trading cards. However, the standout piece within this edition is undoubtedly the light-up “1:1 Evoker replica shadowbox” – a faithful recreation of the iconic gun that plays a significant role in Persona 3’s gameplay and narrative.

For those unfamiliar with Persona 3, the protagonists derive their supernatural abilities from creatures known as Personas. These Personas take on various forms inspired by the thematic elements of each installment in the series. In Persona 3, characters summon their Personas by using an Evoker – a gun – pointing it at their own forehead, and pulling the trigger. This imagery raised eyebrows upon the game’s initial release, and even today, it remains a jarring concept. Nevertheless, it has become an iconic and memorable aspect of Persona 3.

Limited Run Games will be accepting pre-orders for all three editions of Persona 3 Portable from September 29 to November 12 on their website. Given the publisher’s name, it is safe to assume that these physical editions will become scarce once the pre-order window closes. With the numerous iterations of Persona 3 available, it is understandable if fans need a reminder of each version. The original game, simply titled Persona 3, premiered on the PS2 in 2006. A year later, an expanded version called Persona 3 FES was released on the same platform. Shortly after, Persona 3 Portable arrived for the PSP, offering additional content. Earlier this year, Persona 3 Portable received a modern, lightly remastered release on the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC, despite some of those platforms not being portable. It is this version that is receiving the special release from Limited Run Games. Moreover, a complete remake titled Persona 3 Reload is set to launch on February 2, 2024, with its own physical and collector’s editions.

The Persona 3 Portable S.E.E.S. Edition has undoubtedly captivated the attention of fans eagerly anticipating physical releases of the game. Limited Run Games’ attention to detail and dedication to providing unique collector’s items is commendable. Although the concept of the Evoker remains controversial, its inclusion in the collector’s edition pays homage to the game’s distinctive style and storyline.

As pre-orders become available, fans can secure their preferred edition and prepare for a nostalgic journey through the unforgettable Persona 3 universe. Whether it’s the standard edition, the Grimoire Edition, or the ultimate S.E.E.S. Edition, Persona enthusiasts will surely treasure these physical copies of a beloved classic.
