Diablo 4 season 5 is preparing to plunge players back into the depths of hell, as unveiled in the detailed patch notes for the new season’s public test realm (PTR). While the full extent of Diablo 4 season 5 has not been revealed yet, there are plenty of potential changes to look forward to. Two major features of the upcoming update include a new questline that promises shifting alliances and emerging friendships, as well as a new roguelite endgame activity.
The new questline will pick up where the main quest left off, offering players a fresh storyline to dive into. This questline will be accessible in both the seasonal and Eternal realms, remaining active on the Eternal realm even after season 5 concludes. To embark on this new adventure, players will need to venture to Hawezar in World Tier 3 to investigate a mysterious disturbance.
Upon completing the new questline, players will gain access to the Infernal Hordes, the latest endgame activity that will test players’ skills in the fiery depths of Hell. The Infernal Hordes will challenge players to withstand waves of Hellspawn for 90 seconds at a time, collecting Burning Aether to unlock powerful new gear, provided they survive the onslaught.
Accessing the Infernal Hordes requires the use of a Compass, similar to the Sigils used in Nightmare Dungeons. These Compasses come in eight different tiers, each escalating in difficulty and World Tier. By progressing through the waves, players can upgrade their Compasses using Abyssal Scrolls. The final challenge of the Infernal Hordes will pit players against the Fell Council, a group of once good guys turned bad, with three randomized members to battle in each encounter.
Defeating the Fell Council will reward players with Burning Aether, which can be exchanged for one of the four Spoils of Hell: Equipment, Material, Gold, and Greater Equipment. The Greater Equipment guarantees an item with a Greater Affix, offering powerful rewards for those who brave the depths of Hell.
In addition to the new questline and endgame activity, Diablo 4 season 5 will introduce 50 new Legendaries and Uniques to the game, providing players with a plethora of new gear to discover and utilize. Balancing changes for every class will also be implemented, ensuring a more streamlined and balanced gameplay experience.
One significant addition in season 5 is the ability to re-summon bosses without having to reset the entire dungeon. After defeating a boss, players can now summon them again at the Altar, offering a chance to earn more rewards by replaying challenging encounters.
Diablo 4’s season 5 PTR will run from June 25 to July 2, during which Blizzard will gather feedback from the community to make any necessary tweaks before the official launch of season 5. Players can expect weekly digests, community tales, and more as they delve into the dark and dangerous world of Diablo 4’s latest season.
