Batman, one of the most iconic superheroes of all time, is celebrating his 85th anniversary this year. To mark this special occasion, DC is releasing a new 4K Blu-ray box set featuring 10 of the Caped Crusader’s most memorable animated adventures. This collection showcases Batman across various eras of animation, allowing fans to experience the evolution of the Dark Knight throughout the years.

The Batman 85th Anniversary Collection is now available for pre-order ahead of its September 10 release date. Priced at $201 on Amazon and Target, the box set includes a colorful slipcase and a 24-page commemorative booklet. In addition to the physical items, the collection comes with both 4K Blu-ray and digital versions of all 10 movies included in the set.

The collection features a diverse range of classic and modern Batman stories set in different timelines. From “Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” and “Batman Year One” to “Batman: The Long Halloween” and “Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham,” fans can expect a mix of beloved classics and entertaining modern interpretations of the Dark Knight.

While some films like “Mask of the Phantasm” and “Year One” stand out as highlights of the collection, others offer a unique take on the Batman mythos. Films like “Assault on Arkham” focus on the Suicide Squad within the Arkhamverse, while “Gotham by Gaslight” puts a Victorian-era spin on the Dark Knight. Despite not reaching the same heights, movies like “The Killing Joke,” “Harley Quinn,” and “Hush” still stay true to the essence of DC’s source material.

This isn’t the first time DC has released a box set of Batman’s animated movies. Back in 2019, to celebrate Batman’s 80th anniversary, an 18-film collection was released. While the 80th Anniversary Collection features six movies included in the 85th Anniversary Collection, it differs in that it contains standard 1080p Blu-ray discs. Priced at $63 (down from $90) on Amazon, the 80th Anniversary Collection offers a larger selection of movies, making it a worthwhile addition for fans of the Dark Knight.

The decision to release the 85th Anniversary Collection exclusively in 4K Blu-ray format speaks to the growing demand for higher resolution content among consumers. While some titles like “Gotham Knight,” “Under the Red Hood,” and “Son of Batman” are not available on 4K Blu-ray, the inclusion of existing 4K titles in the collection adds value for fans looking to upgrade their viewing experience.

Coinciding with Batman’s 85th anniversary is the 35th anniversary of Tim Burton’s iconic Batman movie. Starring Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker, the film remains a classic in the superhero genre. Fans can now experience the film in stunning 4K resolution, along with other films from Burton’s Batman series, in a special 4K Blu-ray collection for $50.

As Batman continues to captivate audiences worldwide, the release of the 85th Anniversary Collection serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Dark Knight. With a mix of classic and modern animated adventures, this collection offers fans a comprehensive look at the evolution of Batman over the years. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to the world of Gotham City, this box set is a must-have for any Batman enthusiast.
