Elite Dangerous has released its newest update, Update 15, which allows players to fight back against the Thargoid invasion that began in November last year. The update introduces a new tool to help players enter the mysterious Thargoid Maelstrom clouds that have been appearing across the galaxy since the invasion. However, players must also face new enemy classes and Thargoid vessels, including the aggressive Hunter-class Glaive vessel. According to Frontier Development’s lead game designer Luke Betterton, the Glaive is a formidable opponent that has the ability to shut down a commander’s escape capabilities. Betterton advises players to prepare their strategies and loadouts before taking on the Glaive.

New On-Foot Mission with Thargoid Threats

Update 15 also includes a new on-foot mission that involves restoring power to an abandoned settlement deep in Thargoid territory. Although players will need to navigate in the dark, the mission also introduces a new Thargoid threat – the Searchlight-esque Thargoid Revenants. These heavily-armoured enemies move quickly and work together to eliminate threats. Senior producer Samantha Marsh suggests using stealth or an SRV vehicle to counter their homing laser fire.

Update 15 is Only the Beginning of the Thargoid War

According to Marsh, Update 15 is just the start of the Thargoid war story as the conflict continues to evolve. The Maelstrom clouds also hold surprises that will change the game. Players will need to wait until Update 15 is launched on Tuesday, May 9th at 3pm BST to find out what lies inside.

Elite Dangerous Available on Steam and Epic Games Store

Elite Dangerous is available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store for £20/€25/$30, but the on-foot missions are only available to those who own the Odyssey expansion.
