With the release of the PlayStation 5, Sony made a big promise to gamers that 99% of PS4 games would work on the new console. This means that you can still enjoy your favorite PS4 titles on the PS5 without any issues. Additionally, some games even have free upgrades for the PS5, taking advantage of the better hardware and performance.
To access your PS4 games on the PS5, simply head to the Game Library tile on the far right of the home screen. Here, you can view all the games you’ve played on the PS4 and filter them by platform. You can easily re-download any game you want to play on the PS5 from here.
If you have physical PS4 discs, you can still play them on the PS5 by simply inserting them into the console (except for the Digital Edition). The game will need to install and apply any updates, but after that, it will run seamlessly on the PS5 just like it did on the PS4.
If you stored games on an external hard drive for your PS4, you can easily transfer them to the PS5 by unplugging the hard drive from the old console and connecting it to the new one. There is no need for conversion or reformatting, as the PS5 will recognize and run the games directly from the external hard drive.
Another way to transfer your PS4 games to the PS5 is through a Wi-Fi transfer. If you still have your PS4, you can copy the games stored internally on the console (not on the external hard drive) directly to the PS5. Simply go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer on both consoles and follow the on-screen instructions. Make sure both consoles are connected to the internet over Wi-Fi or through a LAN connection for a faster transfer.
Playing PS4 games on the PS5 is a seamless process with multiple methods available to transfer your games and play them on the new console. Sony’s commitment to backwards compatibility ensures that you can continue to enjoy your favorite PS4 titles on the PS5 without any obstacles.
