Dragon’s Dogma 2, the highly anticipated RPG from Capcom, has finally arrived on PC and consoles. However, despite receiving high critical acclaim from reviewers, the game has found itself at the center of controversy due to the sudden introduction of microtransactions. Players on Steam have expressed their outrage, leading to a wave of negative reviews and a tarnished reputation for the game.

Upon the game’s release, players discovered the presence of microtransactions in Dragon’s Dogma 2, which were not disclosed prior to the launch. These microtransactions include various DLC items such as Wakestones, Rift Crystals, Port Crystal, gaol key, and a character editor called Art Of Metamorphosis. The pricing of these items ranges from 89 pence to £4.45 in the UK, leading to concerns among the player base.

In response to the backlash, Capcom issued a statement to Steam players, clarifying that many of the DLC items can also be obtained in-game without the need for real-world money. They emphasized that items such as the character editor and various crystals can be acquired through gameplay progression. Despite this explanation, players remain skeptical and critical of the microtransactions added to the game.

The negative reviews on Steam primarily focus on the existence of microtransactions in Dragon’s Dogma 2, rather than their impact on gameplay progression. Players are disappointed by the lack of transparency regarding the inclusion of microtransactions, especially after the game’s initial pricing announcement sparked controversy. The perception of having to pay additional fees for in-game content has left players frustrated and disgruntled.

Apart from the microtransaction controversy, players have also raised concerns about the game’s performance on PC. Reports of crashes, freezing, and inconsistent frame rates have plagued the gameplay experience for many users. Capcom has acknowledged these issues and has vowed to address them by investigating and fixing critical problems, particularly those related to CPU usage and character interactions within the game.

The arrival of Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been met with mixed reactions from players, largely due to the unexpected introduction of microtransactions and performance issues. While Capcom has attempted to clarify the availability of in-game content and address performance concerns, the damage to the game’s reputation may prove challenging to repair. Moving forward, it will be essential for developers to prioritize transparency, communication, and player feedback to navigate similar challenges in the future.
