Disney Speedstorm players are up in arms following a recent decision by developer Gameloft to alter the way in which the game is monetized. Previously, players could earn access to the game’s “Golden Pass” by grinding for Tokens. However, with the launch of the next season, players will only be able to unlock the Golden Pass by purchasing access for $9.99.

Gameloft announced these changes in a blog post, stating that the goal is to make Golden Passes more engaging and faster to complete. Additionally, players will be able to focus more on unlocking Racers via Golden Passes and will receive more rewards that can be used on any Racer in the game. As part of these changes, Golden Passes will no longer be purchasable with Tokens, only through direct purchase.

This decision has sparked major frustration among Disney Speedstorm players, especially those who had previously invested in the game’s Founder’s Pack, which included a significant amount of Tokens. Players took to social media to express their disappointment, with many feeling betrayed by the sudden change in monetization strategy.

Players voiced their concerns on platforms like Twitter, with one user lamenting, “The Golden Pass will no longer be purchasable with tokens?! That is possibly the WORST change you could make!” Another player expressed regret over purchasing the Founder’s Pack, stating, “I saved my tokens for future passes and now they’re gonna be direct purchases? Guess I’ll stop playing.”

The overwhelming response from players has been a call for Gameloft to reconsider these changes. Many feel that their saved Tokens have now lost their value and won’t be of use for new seasonal content. On Steam, players are criticizing Gameloft’s monetization model and accusing the developer of greed.

As of now, Gameloft has not responded to the backlash or indicated whether they will reverse the planned changes. It is evident that player sentiment needs to be taken into consideration, as the outcry continues to grow. Whether these complaints will be enough to prompt Gameloft to revisit their decisions remains to be seen. Players are eagerly awaiting further developments on this issue.
