Disney Speedstorm, the upcoming F2P release, has caused concern among early access players due to the perceived overpowering of Monsters, Inc. racer Mike Wazowski. Mike’s unique skill “Hold the Door” allows him to teleport himself forward and send rival racers backward. Many players are calling for Mike to be nerfed as a result.

Developer Response

In response, developer Gameloft has issued a statement in a Q&A segment on the official website. The statement indicates that there will be no changes made to Mike, but the company will “continue to monitor the situation”. Instead, other racers and classes will eventually be able to match Mike when they are upgraded.

Gameloft stated that Mike is unlockable early for all players, and with Upgrade Parts being readily available for him via the Golden Pass, he has been a go-to choice for many players at the early stages of the game’s release. The company understands that Mike is extremely popular with players, but it wants to ensure that everyone can experience racing with many different Disney and Pixar Racers.

Gameloft also pointed out that Mike appears frequently in Ranked Multiplayer with a high win percentage. However, as players upgrade other racers to match Mike’s level, other racers and racer classes will become top picks for players to compete with. Additionally, as more players unlock, upgrade, and become comfortable with more racers and racer classes, the gameplay experience will naturally balance out, and a more varied set of racers will be on the winner’s podium.

Players can see Mike’s special ability in action on the official game website, where the full Q&A is also available.
