The UK’s national holiday on Monday, May 8th, means that RPS will mostly be inactive. This means that readers will not be able to find out about the launch of Darkest Dungeon 2 hitting 1.0 and becoming available on Steam for the first time. However, the news is shared now, and there is a launch trailer available for anyone who is interested.

Post-Release Plans Unveiled

Darkest Dungeon 2 has been available in early access on Epic since 2021, and it follows in the footsteps of the original game. Players must assemble a team of adventurers, take them into emotionally difficult turn-based battles, and try to upgrade them enough to survive more challenging enemies. Red Hook has revealed that 1.0 will include “12 playable characters with a complete narrative featuring 5 acts.” The two closing acts and one of the characters are new to the final release.

However, the game will not be the final release. The developers have stated that, like the first game, they will support Darkest Dungeon 2 post-release with a variety of free updates that include content and quality-of-life improvements. Mod support, new monsters, new skins, and balance tuning are among the current plans.

Early Access Reviews

Brendy initially reviewed Darkest Dungeon 2’s early access release and felt it was a rough start. Since then, there has been little information released about the game, making it difficult to determine whether this is a good or bad thing. The first game encountered significant backlash from players as it underwent substantial design changes during early access, so perhaps a quieter early access period is beneficial for the sequel.

The launch of Darkest Dungeon 2 on May 8th will give players the opportunity to experience the game for themselves and determine whether it lives up to the expectations set by the original game.
