After six years of being available on consoles, the post-DayZ game Vigor is finally making its way to PC. The delay in bringing this survival shooter to PC is quite perplexing, especially considering how long the game has been available on other platforms. While adapting the game for PC may present significant challenges, it seems unusual that it took this long to address those challenges and make the game available to a wider audience.

Vigor is set in a post-apocalyptic Norway in an alternate nineties, where players take on the roles of Outlanders trying to survive in a wasteland filled with rival factions. The game offers various modes such as Shootout deathmatches, team Elimination battles, and Loot Events, where players can gather resources to upgrade their shelter and craft better weapons. The gameplay loop of gathering resources, upgrading shelters, and crafting items is a classic survival-crafting mechanic that has proven popular among players.

Despite being free-to-play on consoles for over half a decade, Vigor will be launching into early access on Steam next month for a price of $20. Players who wish to gain early access can purchase a Reinforcements Pack, which includes various bonus weapons, cosmetics, consumable items, and other extras. The early access period is expected to last around three months, after which any progress made will be wiped (except for items purchased). This approach seems to be a way for developers to receive early feedback and polish the game before its full release.

According to Bohemia Interactive, adapting Vigor for PC presented significant challenges, which may have been the reason for the delay in its release. While early access is meant to address these challenges and refine the game before its full release, it raises questions about why these challenges were not addressed earlier in the game’s development. The long-awaited release of Vigor on PC will also introduce an overhaul to the game’s gunplay, which has been a long-requested feature by players.

The early access release of Vigor on Steam is scheduled for May, although an exact date has not been provided. After the early access period, the game will transition to being fully free-to-play, allowing players on PC to cross-play with those on consoles. The full release is expected to happen towards the end of summer, if all goes according to plan. Despite the delay in bringing Vigor to PC, it seems that developers are committed to refining the game and addressing player feedback to ensure a successful launch.

The long-awaited release of Vigor on PC has raised questions about the delay in bringing the game to its predecessors’ home platform. While the game offers an intriguing post-apocalyptic setting and engaging gameplay mechanics, the decision to launch it into early access on Steam for a price may deter some players. It remains to be seen how the PC community will receive Vigor and whether the game will live up to expectations after its lengthy development process.
