Bytten Studios and Raw Fury have revealed that Cassette Beasts, a role-playing game that draws inspiration from Pokémon, will be available on consoles, including the Nintendo Switch, from May 25. The game, which features unusual, cute pixel art creatures, is already available on Steam and the Microsoft Store. However, the game’s release on consoles has been highly anticipated by fans of the genre.

According to reviewers, Cassette Beasts offers a smart, evolutionary offshoot of the monster-taming genre, which takes a slightly more mature approach to the concept. The developers, Bytten Studios, based in Brighton, UK, have over two decades of experience in the indie pixel art scene, having worked with Chucklefish on games such as Stardew Valley.

In Cassette Beasts, players can collect monsters and fuse them using cassette tapes. This unique feature enables players to transform into monsters and record a variety of special creatures to play back in battle. Players can also merge with their companion’s monsters to create unique and fully animated fusions, each with its own strengths.

The game is set in an open world full of beautifully crafted monsters, ’80s vibes, and a synthy soundtrack. Players will encounter various challenges as they explore, including monster attacks, puzzles, and more. Additionally, some monster abilities can be used in human form, making it easier to navigate the world.

Cassette Beasts also features a captivating story with spooky twists and turns, as well as a deep battle system that allows players to use elemental chemistry to their advantage. Players can travel with a diverse cast of companions and forge bonds with them to become a better team.

The game also offers co-op multiplayer mode for up to two players, allowing them to explore, transform, and battle together as a duo.

In an interview, Jay Bayliss, one of the game’s developers, discussed what makes Cassette Beasts different from Game Freak’s Pokémon franchise. He explained that the game takes a more mature approach to the genre, offering a unique concept that enables players to fuse and transform into monsters using cassette tapes.

Overall, Cassette Beasts is a must-play for fans of the monster-taming genre, offering a fresh take on the concept with its unique features and stunning visual style.
