Jonathan Groff, famous for his roles in Disney’s Frozen and Netflix’s Mindhunter, has been added to the cast of the upcoming season of Doctor Who. The show will return this November with three special episodes to celebrate its 60th anniversary, featuring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor. Meanwhile, Ncuti Gatwa will make his debut as the Fifteenth Doctor.

Although Groff’s role has not been disclosed, he expressed his joy at joining the cast and praised Gatwa’s portrayal of the iconic character. “I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T. Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role,” the actor said in a statement.

Jinkx Monsoon, a drag star, was previously announced as joining the cast and will play the Doctor’s “most powerful enemy yet.” Showrunner Davies lauded the addition of Groff, calling it an “incredible coup” and an honor to have such a “huge star” on the set. “So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!” he added.

Gatwa was selected as the new Doctor in May, following his performance on the Netflix series Sex Education. He is the fourth Scottish actor to take on the role, after Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant, and Peter Capaldi.

Doctor Who will be broadcast exclusively on the BBC in the UK and Ireland. However, new seasons of the show will only be available on Disney+ outside of the UK and Ireland. Fans of the show are eagerly anticipating the upcoming season, which promises to be an exciting celebration of the sci-fi classic’s six decades on the airwaves.
