AT&T has recently introduced a new early upgrade program called Next Up Anytime for customers on an AT&T installment plan. This program, set to launch on July 16th, comes at a cost of $10 per month, which is higher than AT&T’s existing $6 per month Next Up add-on. However, it offers subscribers the flexibility to upgrade their smartphones after making just one installment payment, with the option to do so up to three times per year.
The key feature of the Next Up Anytime program is that it allows customers to trade in and upgrade their devices after paying off only 33 percent of the device. This means that for AT&T’s 36-month installment plans, customers can upgrade after just one year while still being able to take advantage of discounts through upgrade promotions. Additionally, customers have the option to upgrade “as soon as one installment payment and the first Next Up Anytime payment is made.”
Compared to AT&T’s older $6 monthly Next Up add-on, Next Up Anytime offers more frequent upgrades and the ability to upgrade sooner in the payment cycle. While the $6 monthly plan allows for upgrades once half of the device is paid off, the new program allows for upgrades at just 33 percent paid off. However, customers opting for immediate upgrades with the Next Up Anytime program will not be eligible for upgrade promotions and will have to pay the full price for a new device. Additionally, customers are limited to three upgrades per year.
AT&T’s Next Up Anytime program may appeal to customers who wish to switch out their devices regularly and stay up-to-date with the latest smartphone releases. For example, a customer dissatisfied with their current device’s camera capabilities could upgrade to a new smartphone with the desired features. The program’s flexibility in allowing frequent upgrades may attract tech enthusiasts who are eager to experience the latest technology.
While the Next Up Anytime program simplifies the upgrade process and offers more frequent options, it comes at an added cost of $10 per month. For customers who prioritize having the latest devices and are willing to pay the price, this program may be beneficial. However, for those who are content with their current devices or prefer to wait longer between upgrades, the additional monthly fee may not be worth it.
AT&T’s Next Up Anytime upgrade program provides customers with more flexibility and options for upgrading their devices. With the ability to trade in and upgrade after paying off just 33 percent of the device, customers can stay current with the latest smartphone releases. While the program incurs an additional monthly cost, it may be a convenient choice for individuals who value having the latest technology at their fingertips.
