Although they didn’t make it to the podium, let’s acknowledge the games that received honorable mentions based on both our internal vote and the Reader’s Choice poll. Coming in strong at third place from our own selection is “Bahnsen Knights.” Brought to life by the imaginative minds of novelist Nico Saraintaris and artist Fernando Martinez Ruppel, this game captivated us with its fusion of Choose Your Own Adventure-books and breathtaking pixel art. After tallying up the votes, the Reader’s Choice winner for January 2024 is none other than “Arcade Archives Rainbow Islands” with an impressive 21% of the votes. Sometimes, nothing can surpass the classics, and Hamster has consistently excelled at resurrecting beloved arcade games on the Switch. Reflecting the nostalgia of over 35 years ago, “Rainbow Islands” continues to captivate audiences with its charm and challenging gameplay. It’s a testament to the timeless appeal of retro gaming.
Curious about how we determine our eShop Selects top three? Allow us to shed some light on our meticulous process. By the end of each month, the esteemed staff members at Nintendo Life engage in a thoughtful vote to determine their favorite games from a curated list selected by our editorial team. To make it on this exclusive list, games must have been released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch eShop as digital titles during that particular month. Furthermore, each game must have undergone a comprehensive review on Nintendo Life.
Staff members cast their vote by selecting their top three choices, assigning 3 points to their first choice, 2 points to their second, and 1 point to their third. These votes are then meticulously counted and compiled to form a top-three list of eShop Selects. The game with the most points attains the honor of being crowned the top pick for that month.
