Rumours have been circulating that Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush did not perform as expected, however, Xbox marketing VP Aaron Greenburg has denied the ongoing narrative, stating that the game was a ‘break out hit’ for Xbox.

The Success of Hi-Fi Rush

Hi-Fi Rush was released in January 2023 with no marketing or awareness beforehand, directly after an Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct showcase. Despite the surprise drop, the game quickly became one of the most talked-about games of the year, thanks to its strong combat system and style. In a review of Hi-Fi Rush, GamesHub described it as an exuberant experience with excellent rhythm mechanics and praised the art direction and attention to detail.

Xbox’s Response

Industry insider Jeff Grubb recently reported that the game had failed to meet sales expectations, but Greenberg responded to the allegations via Twitter, stating that Hi-Fi Rush was a break out hit for Xbox and that they couldn’t be happier with what the team at Tango Gameworks delivered with this surprise release. Xbox boss Phil Spencer reaffirmed his support by retweeting Greenberg’s statement. Grubb later clarified his comments and admitted fault in the use of the word ‘needed’ in regard to sales expectations.

Despite the rumours, Xbox has plenty of faith in the adventure and Tango Gameworks’ future looks bright. Hi-Fi Rush has been praised for its colour, creativity, and imagination, making it a real gem in the gaming world.
