EA and Respawn Entertainment’s popular free-to-play battle royale game, Apex Legends, has announced a major overhaul of one of its most neglected characters, Revenant. The hauntingly dark legend has been given a new lease on life, thanks to a revamped visual design and reworked set of abilities that embrace his sinister nature. This transformative update comes as a response to the dwindling popularity of the character, as confirmed by Apex Legends design director Evan Funnell during a media preview event. However, it should be noted that this is not indicative of a regular occurrence for major character overhauls in the game; it is simply a unique case.
Revenant’s newfound abilities are set to bring a fresh and exciting dynamic to the first-person shooter experience. One of his most intriguing new abilities is Assassin’s Instinct, a passive skill that grants Revenant the ability to automatically detect enemies with less than 40 health points (HP). Additionally, this uncanny ability enhances his crouch-walking speed and grants him superior wall climbing capabilities, setting him apart from other characters.
A Terrifying Leap
Another powerful addition to Revenant’s arsenal is Shadow Pounce. With this ability, Revenant can swiftly close the gap between himself and his opponents, or strategically reposition himself to gain tactical advantages. This leap not only showcases the character’s agility but also his ability to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies.
Revenant’s rework also introduces a formidable ability known as Forged Shadows. This horrifying skill summons a dense cloud of “hardened shadows” that acts as an additional layer of protection, absorbing incoming damage. The shadows have the ability to regenerate over time, and any kills made by Revenant while the ability is active will refresh his Shadow Pounce as well. This deadly combination creates an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty for Revenant’s adversaries.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Revenant will be available for all players to use during the Resurrection season. In addition, players will have the opportunity to unlock him permanently by completing a series of in-game challenges. This gives both new and seasoned players a chance to immerse themselves in the darkness that Revenant represents.
As the Resurrection season unfolds, Apex Legends has not only focused on Revenant’s transformation but has also made several other significant changes to improve gameplay. Ranked matches have been reworked, with adjustments to the way the ladder is calculated, making it more challenging to reach Masters rank. Matchmaking times have also been adjusted to ensure that opponents are evenly matched, enhancing the overall competitive experience. Similarly, the Mixtape mode offers a refreshed match variety, shaking up the game and keeping players engaged. As always, the development team has also made a number of weapon adjustments, adding an element of unpredictability to each encounter.
