The highly anticipated game, Gundam Evolution, is shutting down less than a year after its launch. The news of the impending shutdown was shared by executive producer Kazuya Maruyama and publisher Bandai Namco. The servers will officially close on November 29, just 14 months after its release in September 2022.

Aims and Challenges

The creators of Gundam Evolution had a vision to create a game that would unite fans of both first-person shooter (FPS) games and Gundam. They strived to develop an authentic Gundam FPS game that could be enjoyed by players worldwide. However, they have now come to the difficult decision that they are no longer able to provide a satisfactory gaming experience for their players.

Mixed Reception

While recent user reviews of Gundam Evolution have been predominantly negative, it is worth noting that there was some positive buzz surrounding the game in the months following its launch. The game managed to establish itself as a chaotic yet enjoyable team-based shooter with impressive mech designs. In a different reality, this might have been sufficient. Unfortunately, the gaming industry is unforgiving, and even good games can quickly fade into obscurity.

Continued Support and Closure

Despite the impending shutdown, fans of Gundam Evolution can take solace in the fact that the game will continue to receive updates until its closure. Season 6 is set to launch on August 23, introducing a new unit and two maps. Furthermore, a final season is planned for October, featuring another unit and map.

To accommodate the economic transition, the sale of EVO coins and various microtransaction items will cease on July 26. However, players who already possess these currencies will have the opportunity to utilize them until the game’s shutdown. Additionally, the development team assures players that there will be increased opportunities to earn in-game items through free-to-play methods.

Gundam Evolution, despite its initial positive reception, is unfortunately unable to sustain its services for the long term. Its closure serves as a reminder of the competitive nature of the gaming industry, where even promising titles can struggle to maintain their presence. Nonetheless, fans can look forward to upcoming updates before bidding farewell to this beloved game.
