The highly anticipated RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, will now be released a month earlier than originally planned on PC. Instead of the initial release date of August 31, the game will now hit the shelves on August 3 on both Steam and GOG. The developers explained that this adjustment allows players to have more time to enjoy the game. The decision to change the release date was influenced, at least in part, by the upcoming release of Starfield.

PC Release Date Shifted to Avoid Competing RPGs

Larian, the game’s developer, explicitly stated that the change in release date was due to the crowded RPG market. With an array of highly anticipated RPGs released in the same period, including new Zelda and Diablo games, as well as the upcoming releases of Starfield and Cyberpunk, the developers identified Thursday, August 3, as the most suitable launch window for Baldur’s Gate 3. They assured fans that the game would be ready for release on PC by that date, prompting the decision to bring the release date forward.

PlayStation 5 Release Date Delayed for Technical Improvements

On the other hand, the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 will be delayed by one week. Originally planned to coincide with the release of Starfield on September 6, the PS5 version will now come out on the same day. The developers clarified that the delay is not due to competition but rather to ensure optimal technical performance. They are striving to achieve a consistent 60 frames per second on the PS5. The team does not want to compromise on quality by downscaling the game to 30FPS or making other compromises to meet an arbitrary release date.

The developers also expressed their optimism about releasing the game on Xbox Series X. However, they are currently working on ensuring that the game runs smoothly on both current-gen Xbox consoles, in both single-player and local split-screen modes.

The official Steam blog post linked above provides a comprehensive breakdown of the planned features for the game’s release. It includes the introduction of the Monk class and detailed information about the various races, classes, and origin characters available to players at the start of the game. Additionally, the level cap has been increased from 10 to 12, offering players more opportunities for character development.

For players eager to get a taste of Baldur’s Gate 3 before its official release, the game is currently available in Early Access on PC. However, it is important to note that any progress made during Early Access will not carry over to the final version of the game.
