Bethesda has unveiled new details about its upcoming game Starfield, which is set to be released on September 6th. The game is a new IP for Bethesda and has been described as “Skyrim in space” by game director Todd Howard. During the reveal, Bethesda showcased the game’s cities and settlements, skill trees, upgrades, and space combat.

Details About Starfield

The main story of Starfield revolves around the Constellation, which is the last group of space explorers. Players will meet them in the capital city of New Atlantis, which Bethesda claims is the largest city it has ever built. The city is full of non-playable characters (NPCs) that have unique dialog and are living their lives.

Starfield has more than 1,000 planets that are open for players to explore. These planets have a balance between reality and fun, and each planet has a different gravity level, which affects gunplay and other aspects of the game. When leaving a planet and heading into space, players will have to navigate asteroid fields and can explore derelict ships.

Ships are key to navigation, and players can purchase and customize them with purchasable upgrades. This includes customizing cargo holds and living quarters. Some members of the Constellation can travel with players on their ship, and each companion has unique quest lines. Players can also hire additional crew at spaceports in the game. Once on a planet, players can either walk back to their ship or fast travel.

Ships also have a power system that players can balance to make their ships faster or more prepared for weapons and shields for aerial combat. After destroying enemy ships, players can loot them, scrap them, or board them. Once players take control of an enemy ship, it gets added to their own fleet.

Character creation is a big part of Starfield, and the game has a skill system. The character generation system has facial morphs, makeup blemishes, scars, teeth settings, and much more. Every time players level up, they get a skill point to unlock skills, and ranks are unlocked through challenges. There are five different skill trees in total with four ranks per skill, so there’s a mix of customization here.

Bethesda also demonstrated its treats system, which is an option to buff abilities or a player’s character. Players can choose treats that might include a damage buff or a way to have the same religious beliefs as enemies to avoid combat.

Players can also set up outposts on planets and harvest resources while they’re away. Once they have resources, players can craft items, including adding different mods to guns, such as suppressors for stealthy play and explosive rounds for when players want to blow things up.

Bethesda teased that players might get supernatural powers during its stream and even a Shattered Space story expansion for the game.

Bethesda’s Starfield looks massive and is set to be released exclusively on Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 6th. With a vast number of planets and a skill system that allows for customization, players will be able to experience exploring space in a new way. The game has already generated a lot of excitement, and fans are eagerly anticipating its release.
