Jenna Ortega, who plays the lead in Netflix’s Wednesday, has revealed that she will be taking on a producing role for Season 2. She also disclosed the direction the show will be taking in the future. In an interview with Variety, Ortega shared that they plan on “leaning into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more.” This is because the show is centered around vampires, werewolves, and superpowers, and they don’t want to take themselves too seriously.
No More Romantic Love Interest for Wednesday
Ortega also revealed that they plan on ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday. This is a significant change from Season 1, where a good portion of the show revolved around a love triangle between Wednesday, Tyler, and Xavier. Ortega believes this is really great and will allow the audience to focus more on the horror element of the show.
Collaborative Efforts
Despite the many ideas that have been tossed around for Season 2, Ortega has been hands-on and wants to know what’s happening. She has had as many conversations as possible with the writers and Tim Burton to further understand her character. This collaborative effort has allowed Ortega to be more involved in the decision-making process for the show’s direction. To prepare for the upcoming season, Ortega wanted to get ahead of the curve and see things such as the outfits, new characters being introduced, and even the script.
Strong Foundation for Future Seasons
Chris E. Hayner wrote in our Wednesday Season 1 review that the show sets a strong foundation for what could be a number of future seasons of quality programming. With Ortega taking on a more significant role in the production of Season 2, it’s clear that the show is headed in the right direction. Fans can expect a more horror-oriented plot and a more collaborative effort from the team to bring the audience a quality show.
