At this year’s CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. showed off footage from Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie. Before the clips were shown, Gerwig and the cast, including Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, took to the stage to discuss their experiences filming the movie. Gerwig stated that writing and making the movie was a joyful experience for everyone involved, and that she and co-writer Noah Baumbach had shared many laughs and even tears during the process. Gosling shared that he had some initial struggles getting into character as Ken, but that Margot and Gerwig helped him find his “Kenergy.”

New Footage Reveals Plot Details

The new footage finally revealed some plot details for the movie. Barbie and Ken will leave their own world and enter ours, much like the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. However, the transition is not a smooth one, as Barbie is slapped on the butt by a man and responds with a punch to the jaw, leading to her arrest for assault. The footage also gave glimpses of other cast members, including Kate McKinnon as another Barbie who may not be as put together as Robbie’s Barbie, and Will Ferrell as the head of a toy company in the real world.

Barbie Movie Set to Hit Theaters in July

As the release date draws closer, fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Barbie movie in theaters. With a talented cast and a promising plot, it’s sure to be a summer blockbuster. While it remains to be seen whether it will be the cinematic event of the summer, the new footage shown at CinemaCon has certainly put it in the running. Fans can catch the movie in theaters starting July 21.
