Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced that he will be reprising his role as Hobbs in a new Fast & Furious movie. Johnson last appeared in the franchise in 2019’s Hobbs and Shaw, and fans have been wondering if he would return since his cameo at the end of Fast X. In a video posted on his Twitter account, Johnson revealed that Hobbs is back and will be a part of a “fresh, new chapter & setup for Fast X: Part II.”

Production Details

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson will be producing the unnamed Fast project alongside Vin Diesel and others. Chris Morgan will be in charge of the script and will also be producing. Morgan has worked on most Fast films, except for Fast & Furious 9 and Fast X.

Bridge the Gap

The upcoming movie will not be a sequel to Hobbs and Shaw or Fast X. Instead, it’s meant to bridge the gap between X and 11. While Johnson is set to return to the series, Vin Diesel is expected to not star in the film. The two actors have had a rocky relationship, casting doubt on Johnson’s continued involvement in at least the main Fast and Furious series.

Critical Response

In our Fast X review, we gave it a 4/10, stating that it was an “exhausting experience” that was more concerned with fan service than telling a decent story. Despite this, fans around the world have been excited about Hobbs’ return in Fast X and Johnson’s involvement in the new film.
