Asad Qizilbash, the head of PlayStation Productions, recently discussed the upcoming TV adaptations of God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn on the Official PlayStation Podcast. He emphasized the importance of adapting the original game and its story with care, citing HBO’s success with The Last of Us as an example. According to Qizilbash, the same level of care and formula applied to The Last of Us will be utilized for God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn. He stated that the TV shows will have the time and episodes to properly tell the story of the game, as opposed to cramming it into a two-hour movie.
Expanding beyond the game’s story
Qizilbash also noted that the TV adaptations will explore opportunities beyond the game’s story. This will include expanding on other characters and worldbuilding that cannot be achieved within the game’s structure. He mentioned that fans will be excited to see the game come to life, as well as new elements that were not present in the game, similar to what was done with The Last of Us.
Upcoming projects
Amazon Prime Video will be responsible for the God of War series, while Netflix will be adapting the Horizon Zero Dawn series. Both projects are still in the early stages of production, and casting has yet to be announced. A Ghost of Tsushima movie is also in the works, with Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, at the helm. Stahelski recently shared some details about the upcoming film.
