Mark Hamill, the actor who famously portrayed Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, has revealed that fans should not expect to see him reprise his role yet again. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hamill confirmed that he does not have any expectations of playing Luke Skywalker in the future, despite a series of new Star Wars films currently in development.
End of an Era
Hamill’s comments come after Skywalker’s death in the 2017 film, The Last Jedi. Although Jedi can live on as Force ghosts, Hamill suggested that his character’s story has come to a natural end, stating that he knew it was over when he first read the script. The actor admitted that saying goodbye to the people he had associated with over the years was emotional, and he still misses them.
Rey’s Return
While Hamill may be done with the Star Wars universe, actress Daisy Ridley, who played Rey, will be reprising her character in an upcoming film directed by Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Other Star Wars movies are also in the works, including films from Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Taika Waititi.
Hamill’s Future Projects
Despite not returning to Star Wars, Hamill has continued to work in the industry and has recently starred in a new movie called The Machine, playing the role of Bert Kreischer’s father. The film tells the story of a wild encounter with the Russian mob and is out now.
Mark Hamill has made it clear that he has no expectations of returning as Luke Skywalker in future Star Wars films. While his character’s story may have come to an end, fans can look forward to seeing other familiar faces in the upcoming Star Wars movies, including Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey. Hamill’s recent work in The Machine shows that the actor is still actively working in the industry and pursuing new projects.
